Measuring for Delivery

Equally important as picking out the right furniture is making sure it will fit in your home. Angled doorways, narrow hallways, and stairways can pose challenges when moving your new furniture into your home. Whether you’re planning on having it delivered by our professional delivery team or bringing it in yourself, take some time to follow these recommended guidelines to ensure a smooth delivery.

Measure Your Space

  1. Measure all entryways the furniture will pass through by jotting down the height and width of all affected doors and hallways.

  2. For narrow entryways and sharp corner turns, also measure the total clearance length between the outside and interior walls.

  3.  Account for low-hanging fixtures, banisters, decorative moldings, interior walls, stairwells, and elevators when measuring, as they may pose an obstacle during the delivery process.

Measure Your Furniture

  1. Know your current furniture. If you have a 90″ sofa in your space now, for example, you’ll have a good reference once you start shopping for a new one.

  2. Use the product dimensions on our website (width x depth x height) or bring a measuring tape into one of our showrooms to get the exact measurements of the piece(s) you’re interested in purchasing. Note that sectionals are delivered in individual pieces. Use individual component measurements as opposed to the sectional’s overall measurements. If these dimensions aren’t listed on our website, ask a sales associate or chat with us online.

  3. For sofas, chairs, and other single-piece furniture items, also note the diagonal depth, which will determine if the piece can be brought through tighter entryways at an angle.

  4. Visualize the piece(s) of furniture in your space by mapping out the dimensions with masking tape, paper, or another visual aide.

  5. If you’re unsure whether or not something will fit, ask a sales associate or chat with us online to find out if the furniture piece can be modified in any way to help make transport easier (ex: removable legs on a sofa).

Make Sure It Fits In Your Home

For Sofas, Sectionals, Loveseats & Chairs:

  1. The width of the entryway must exceed at least one of the following: the piece’s depth, diagonal depth, or height.

  2. If the entryway clearance exceeds the piece’s width, you can move it in horizontally.

  3. If the entryway clearance is less than the piece’s width, you will need to attempt to move it in vertically, meaning that the entryway height must exceed the piece’s width.

  4. Note: the piece will not fit into your home if either of these instances holds true:

    1. The piece’s width exceeds both the entryway clearance and height.

    2. If entryway width is less than all three of these measurements: the piece’s depth, diagonal depth, and height.

For Dressers, Chests, TV Stands, Headboards, Bookcases, Foundations, and Lifestyle Bases:

  1. The width of the entryway must exceed the piece’s depth.

  2. If the entryway clearance exceeds the piece’s height, you can move it in horizontally.

  3. If the entryway clearance is less than the piece’s height, you will need to attempt to move it in vertically, meaning that the entryway height must exceed the piece’s height.

  4. Note: the piece will not fit into your home if the piece’s height exceeds both the entryway clearance and height.
