Our first location on Main Street in Green Bay

We’ve been fortunate enough to call Northeast Wisconsin home for the last 75 years. When we first opened our doors on Green Bay’s Main Street, we started with the slogan “A mile from downtown, ’tis true, but a mile from high prices, too!” Although we’ve since transitioned to “Your Style for Less,” our original slogan remains part of the memories we’ve created here in the Northeast Wisconsin community. And, 75 years later, we still hold these words close, as they remain the foundation for everything we do.

It all starts with the fact that we still call Green Bay home. It’s where all of our internal operations are located—from our corporate headquarters and warehouse and distribution center, to our customer service call center and service technician department. It’s just one of the ways we believe being 100% local allows us to provide a better customer experience by having the flexibility to tailor our services to your needs.

Our present-day store in Fond du Lac at 50 N. Main Street

Our original owners – Henry Wagnitz, Paul Greene, Carl Greene and Henry Rupp – founded the company on one core principle; we take care of our customers. While styles and trends have changed over the years, one thing has stayed the same: we are continuously looking for ways to deliver on this principle.

We’ve grown from one store in Green Bay to a total of six WG&R Furniture locations and three standalone WG&R Sleep Shop locations across Northeast Wisconsin, along with August Haven locations in Green Bay and Appleton. We also have our WG&R Mattress Factory in Two Rivers, where our quality WG&R Factory Direct mattresses are handcrafted every day.

Celebrating our 75th anniversary

Our present-day flagship store in Appleton at the corner of I-41 & Wisconsin Avenue

As we enter our 75th year in business, we’re still committed to our core principle first established in 1946. In order to better serve the needs of today’s customers, we’ve made it easier and more convenient to get your new furniture or mattress sooner with options for immediate pickup and delivery on all in-stock items.

We are so grateful for all of our customers over the last 75 years. As three generations of local, family-owned pride, we place special importance on having integrity in all that we do and building lifelong relationships. We strongly believe that as long as we continue to do business like we have since 1946, we’ll be around for the next 75 years, too.

A new season is upon us, and what better time than now to get a head start on transforming your space? We don’t know about you, but with any shift in seasons we love finding fresh ideas to bring any room back to life.

1.  Introduce New Accessories

Perhaps the easiest way to update a space is to introduce new accessories.  Play with different sizes, textures, colors, or groupings that adhere to the overall concept of the room.  Group tabletop accessories in odd numbers for a more visually interesting statement, and feel free to mix elements that work together but don’t necessarily match. This can be as simple as grouping a collection of similar items in different heights or shades of the same color.

An even easier way to revive a space is to swap accent pieces from one room of your home with another.  They’ll look brand new within the confines of a new space.  Accessories are also a great way to experiment with trends that intrigue you without making a huge commitment.  Some go-to accessories that you can play around with?  Lamps, accent pillows, and tabletop accessories are available in a multitude of styles, colors, and sizes.

2.  Introduce New Art

The same rules above apply to new art as well.  Art is extremely versatile and is therefore able to be used as a complementary piece to an overall theme, or the statement piece to pull together an entire room.  Even swapping out frame styles can inject new life into a piece of art.  As with a carefully curated selection of accessories, play around with varying sizes and arrangements of artwork.  Of course, one large statement piece can stand on its own and command attention without the help of flanking pieces.  You can also broaden your perspective of the word “art” and venture into wall art that isn’t framed, such as mirrors, sconces, and hanging or mounted sculptures.  These are just as effective and less expected.

3.  Get Organized

Storage solutions can be stylish too, and will jump-start your next spring cleaning or home organization project.  Baskets, bins, trunks, and storage ottomans in materials such as leather, linen, metal, wood, and wicker can add some style oomph to any room while simultaneously masking any clutter.  To make the storage pieces look organic to the room rather than forced, stay consistent with the overall feel of the space with whichever storage method you choose.

4.  Introduce a New Rug

Nothing can add color or pattern to a room quicker than a large area rug.  With a wide range of textures, sizes, and shapes, the magic of an area rug is its ability to pull a room together in an instant.  If a room is complete but still feels like it’s missing something, an area rug is likely the solution.  Choose one that fits the space appropriately; furniture pieces should somewhat overlap onto the rug, helping to define the parameters of a space while unifying it.

5.  Rearrange Existing Pieces

Sometimes you love what you already have, but you’re just not feeling inspired by it anymore.  Freshen up a room by rearranging the pieces you already have, or by swapping pieces with other rooms.  There are several pieces out today that can be multipurpose, such as poufs, benches, console tables, and accent chairs.  If you want a bigger impact, you can even swap large living room or bedroom pieces with another room.  Sometimes seeing the same setup in the confines of a different space is enough to make it feel brand-new.

How do you know if a sectional is right for you? There’s a reason so many people are choosing sectionals over sofas, and it’s easy to see why. With diverse options offered in both fabric and leather, it’s easy to get the exact configuration you need with the convenient upgrades you want. Here’s why  you should consider a sectional as your next living room mainstay.

How to choose the right sectional

So why should you consider buying a sectional? There are quite a few reasons, actually, but the most appealing is that it provides options. Many sectionals can be configured to fit your space with a variety of individual pieces, ranging from sofas, loveseats, chaise lounges, corner wedges, armless options, as well as RAF (right arm facing) and LAF (left arm facing) options.

The configuration of your sectional will depend on the size, layout, and purpose of your space.  For example, if the primary reason for your sectional is for family movie nights, you’ll want to consider a configuration that gives everyone a good view of the TV without requiring them to sit at an awkward or uncomfortable angle.

The latest sectionals include convenient features that make relaxing and enjoying time with family or friends even more enjoyable.  These features can include power reclining, dropdown consoles, cooling cupholders, and heated massage.  In addition, some of the sofas you see in our showrooms can be custom ordered as a sectional.  Depending on which sectional you choose, the custom options can range from simply selecting a fabric, to adding power control features, to completely building it from scratch in a configuration that suits your space perfectly.

So here’s a look at some of the most popular types of sectionals to help guide you in choosing the right one for your family.

Chaise Sofa

How to choose the right sectional

Whether you call it a two-piece sectional or a chaise sofa (a.k.a. “chofa”), this configuration is essentially a sofa with an attached ottoman on one side. It’s also the most small-space friendly configuration and is a great option for those wanting the extra leg room without having a ton of space for larger sectional configurations.

Stationary

Although this can be described as the most standard type of sectional, it is certainly not basic. The most pared down options will range from a few additional fabric selections or the ability to custom order in a reverse configuration from what is shown. More advanced options can include a wide selection of sectional pieces to choose from to configure the best fit for your space. Cushion, fabric, and finish upgrades are also common.

Reclining

How to choose the right sectional

What could be better than a roomy sectional to relax in? One that reclines. Whether you choose a manual or power reclining configuration, these sectionals include individual recliners that help you get comfortable even faster. Plus, many power recliners are now coming standard with power headrest, power lumbar, and USB port options.

Modular

How to choose the right sectional

Modular sectionals provide the most versatility. They can be arranged in any number of configurations and can usually be split apart to create separate seating areas when you want to rearrange your living room. Ottomans are also a great addition to your modular sectional configuration because they can be placed on either end of the sectional or in front for extra leg room.

Picking out the perfect sectional can be a lot of fun.
