A little about our history and who we are...
Welcome to WG&R Furniture Company. We are the largest and fastest growing furniture retailer in Northeast Wisconsin. For over 60 years we have worked to create a reputation for the best value, finest service and greatest selection in the area.
Beginnings...
WG&R has been in business since 1946. Our name was derived from the initials of WG&R’s founders: Henry Wagnitz, Paul Greene, Carl Greene and Henry Rupp. By 1955 the Greene Family bought out the other partners to hold full ownership of WG&R. They continued to work hard to create a tradition and reputation for customer service, great value and quality furniture. As a result, WG&R experienced steady growth.
Growth...
Throughout the 1960’s WG&R continued to expand, adding on to our Green Bay showroom and opening a store in Oshkosh. We also built a state-of-the-art, 45,000 square foot warehouse allowing for more efficient control of inventory to better serve our customers.
In the early 1970’s we expanded to Manitowoc and opened a new store in Oshkosh. In 1984 WG&R opened a mattress factory in Two Rivers, Wisconsin and began manufacturing WG&R Bedding, a factory direct bedding line sold exclusively through WG&R.
In 1989 we expanded to Appleton and started a long-term initiative to upgrade our merchandising, advertising and operational systems with the goal of becoming a leader in the industry.
To further this effort we also opened a Corporate Office and new warehouse on Green Bay’s east side helping to streamline these processes.
In 1992 our flagship store moved from our longtime location in Green Bay to our current Hansen Rd. location. The mid 1990’s saw WG&R open new stores in both Manitowoc and Oshkosh. We continued to grow into the late 90’s, increasing our showroom floor space in all of our markets, including Green Bay, Appleton, Oshkosh and Manitowoc.
Today...
As WG&R moved into the year 2000 we continued to grow, opening showrooms in Sheboygan in 2002 and Fond du Lac in 2007. The newest addition to the WG&R family, WG&R Sleep Shop, first opened its doors in 2006. A mattress specialty store, WG&R Sleep Shops can be found within all WG&R Furniture showrooms as well as stand alone locations in Green Bay, Appleton, Grand Chute and Fond du Lac. WG&R Sleep Shops remain unique in the market today as the only mattress retailer to offer both America's top brands and Wisconsin's #1 selling factory direct mattresses.
